S.I.C Digital open new store in Town Centre
S.I.C Digital opened last Saturday at 67 High Street, Gosport. The photographic and digital accessory shop is the first business to benefit from the Gosport Empty Unit Support Scheme launched earlier in the year by Gosport Town Team, with the support of Gosport Borough Council.
Matt Harris of S.I.C Digital said “We provide a quality retail experience. We offer everything print related from blank discs, usb sticks and ink cartridges through to photo gifts. We aim to serve both customers wishing to have their photos printed in-store as well as those wanting to buy the materials to be able to print at home.”
“We have an existing store in Selsey West Sussex and chose Gosport as our second location not only because we were able to negotiate a reasonable rent, but because we had done our research. We wanted a larger town with a bigger footfall, but with a similar demographic. Gosport seemed the ideal choice with its mix of chain and independent stores. The grant has really assisted in making the expansion possible and has allowed us to invest in the signage and fit out of the premises helping to create a corporate image to appeal to customers".
Lin Wilson, vice chair of the Town Team said “This is exactly what we wanted the scheme to achieve. It has brought an empty unit back into use and the business strengthens the existing range on offer in the High Street.”
The scheme offers the following package:
A grant of up to £7,000 for capital expenditure will be available alongside discounted professional fees from local solicitors and accountancy firms.
Businesses applying for the scheme are required to provide a robust business plan and commit to a minimum two year lease on the empty unit.
The award is funded from the High Street Innovation Fund awarded by Government to assist in bringing empty units back into use in Gosport High Street. The scheme hopes to bring at least 5 empty units back into use, which would give Gosport one of the lowest vacancy rates in the area.
