Gosport's Big Day Out - Sunday 2nd June 2013
Now in its sixth year, Gosport Borough Council presents the much-anticipated Big Day Out 2013 event. One of the highlights of the Gosport events calendar, Big Day Out is an opportunity for residents to 'be a tourist for the day' and enjoy entertainment on their doorstep that they might not even have realised was there!
This year thirty-seven venues have opened their doors – from Oomph!, an afternoon of hands-on fun with musical instruments at Holy Trinity Church, to the HMS St Vincent Association Guided Tours, to the Masonic Hall Open Day - as ever there’s plenty for everyone to see or take part in.
This year there is extra fun in Gosport High Street, from dance activities in the Falkland Gardens all the way up the High Street to the Discovery Centre and the Local Studies Centre. Lee-on-the-Solent isn't left out either with a free Lee Historic Waterfront Walk and Talk, and a chance to grab some delicious food at the All Seasons on Track event on the seafront.
There's lots of fun to be had at Stokes Bay too where 'tourists for the day' can take part in lots of exciting activities, including a free non-stop vintage open top bus ride along the seafront to Lee and back. There’s the ever-popular Treasure Trail, where participants undertake a mini tour of Alverstoke looking for answers to the Trail questions and a chance to win a prize; a chance to 'Get into Golf'; get your face painted; enjoy a whole range of children’s activities, including zorb balls, a merry-go-round, and lots of other fun children's entertainment. The Alverbank Hotel will again be running Gosport's Got Talent, and you can enjoy a musical afternoon in Stanley Park courtesy of the Gosport Solent Brass Band. Sunday 2 June is also the day of the national Big Lunch event so why not take part and bring your picnic with you?
