Christmas Lights Switched On in Gosport

HUNDREDS of people took to the streets of Gosport to get into the season of goodwill.

Screaming teenage girls had waited from 1pm to see Brooks twins from the X Factor talent show in Gosport

Josh and Kyle, both 15, were on the stage for the lights switch-on in the evening on Saturday.

Kaitlyn Pugh, 16, from Elson Road, Gosport, was one of the fans at the barrier screaming at the TV stars.

She said: ‘They’re famous – they’re really attractive and perfect.’

Dad Shaun Pugh, 36, added: ‘I was out with them today and they wanted to come.’

The Christmas lights shone bright as Wave 105’s Rick Jackson led the countdown on the stage.

Mayor of Gosport Keith Gill turned on the lights in Lawrence Square to much fanfare.

He said: ‘It’s fabulous, and the Brooks were a huge success.’

A thunderous firework display erupted above Gosport Discovery Centre as the Christmas tree and overhead lights illuminated the festivities.

Tammy Kent, 39, from Gosport, was with her family in the High Street.

She said: ‘We love being together as a family all the time.

‘We’re pleased we could do it in our own town.’

Her son Jayden, six, added: ‘The lights lit up the whole place. It was good and the last firework was the best.’
